Lunch Break sends heart-felt condolences to the families of the Rev. Dr. Henry P. Davis (pictured, left) and the Rev. Gilbert Caldwell (right), two mighty “cedars,” legends and pillars of their communities, who have worked for peace and social justice, touching the lives of so many near and far. They will be missed.

An ordained Methodist minister, the Rev. Caldwell was a “footsoldier” in the civil rights movement with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and a frequent lecturer at the Red Bank Library’s “Let’s Talk about Race” series. He was a supporter of civil rights for all.

“We thank God for their presence and ministry amongst us. May we carry on their legacy of Gospel and justice for the rest of our days,” writes Pastor Samaj Vanzant, Sr., of the Second Baptist Church in Asbury Park.

“Both men have worked tirelessly for human rights right in Monmouth County, however, their work reaches well beyond our borders throughout the country,” says Lunch Break Executive Director Gwendolyn Love.
