Today begins National Hispanic Heritage Month, a celebration of the contributions of those tracing their roots to Spain, Mexico, Central America, South American and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Caribbean have made to American society and culture.

As of 2019, Hispanics constituted 18.5 percent of the nation’s total population.

New Jersey is one of 12 states with a population of 1 million or more Hispanic residents, constituting 19 percent of the state’s population.
