For the food insecure, living in the Garden State is not a picnic.

By federal standards, a single working parent with two children in New Jersey could survive on just under $21,000 in 2019.

But we live in New Jersey not Mississippi.

New Jersey has the third-highest cost of living in the country, with some of the highest expenditures in rising housing, food and health care costs.

A family of three needs to make more than $70,000 to escape poverty. A family of five needs at least $99,000 to get by — more than three times the federal poverty level.

About one-third of the state falls below those thresholds, according to a recent NJ Poverty Research Institute report published in The Asbury Park Press.

Thank YOU for realizing the need and supporting our families and individuals struggling with this reality!
