Your Community Needs You Now More Than Ever

Renew the Promise of Hope

Hunger is on the rise. Unprecedented levels of food insecurity require urgent action. In Monmouth and Ocean counties alone, 1 in 10 people are food insecure; 1 in 5 of those people are children, and 78% report having to choose between paying for groceries or paying for housing. In fact, New Jersey ranks #2 in the United States for the most significant increase in childhood food insecurity.

The problem of hunger also hits New Jersey Seniors and veterans hard. 8% of seniors age 60 and older live in poverty with 9.8% reported being food insecure. Between 2015 and 2019, 11.1% of working-age veterans lived in food-insecure households and 5.3% with very low food insecurity.

How Lunch Break Helps

In Monmouth County, Lunch Break has grown from a modest facility with humble beginnings into an organization that now feeds thousands of children and families every year. Lunch Break represents a bridge to a future for many people living close to the poverty line. In addition to providing nutritious meals, our expanded Life Skills programs rebuild lives — helping people restore their self-worth.

Moving People From Urgency to Agency

The number of meals served has increased from 225 to 325 per day since March 202 and the demand continues to grow. The Client Choice Pantry saw a huge increase in demand from approximately 40 people per day accessing the Pantry to more than 120 families per day.

How YOU Can Help

Lunch Break enters 2022 with more exciting plans, offering an extended breadth of services that will provide immeasurable support. With the ability to provide housing for families through our merger with Family Promise, combined with an expanded Life Skills Center, Lunch Break is now well-positioned to offer even more self-sufficiency programs, helping clients achieve a life of meaning, purpose, and pride.
