At Lunch Break, our volunteers are the heart of everything we do and we’re proud to recognize student volunteer Victor Huerta for his dedication to serving our community.
Victor began volunteering with Lunch Break in 2025 as part of the National Honor Society at the Academy of Law & Public Safety in Long Branch. He quickly became a valued member of our team, helping guests in the Your Choice Pantry every Wednesday and Saturday.
Through his volunteer experience, Victor has gained a deeper understanding of the challenges many families face.
“One thing I would say opened my eyes and touched me was while I was doing a walkthrough I saw a bunch of families in the waiting room. During my shift, I was able to help them get food. Knowing I can help is really eye opening,” Victor shared.
As a bilingual volunteer, Victor is able to connect deeply with our Hispanic and Latino community, understanding the importance of creating a welcoming space where guests feel comfortable asking for help.
For Victor, the most rewarding part of volunteering is connecting with others.
“I like everything (about volunteering at Lunch Break) interacting with people and making friends with everyone,” he said. “Helping people in need makes me feel good.” Victor shared that he would like to pursue a career in social work and we like to think volunteering at Lunch Break is a great foundation for his future professional career.
Thank you, Victor, for your compassion, commitment and the positive impact you make every week. Volunteers like you help strengthen our community and remind us of the power of kindness and service.
